What is the best diet?

As we move into 2025 I wanted to share my philosophy on food. I do this not because I think anybody gives two hoots what I think ( even though I’ve had over 22 years clinical practice and research years to work this out) but to have a place where I can refer people to when I get asked the same questions over and over and over again. This allows me to focus then on areas I think are more important.

My philosophy on food is a common sense approach ( at least I like to think it is) some people may disagree with me, many of them experts in their own field, many of them not!

Some people want me to buy into their paradigm of the latest fad or belief system whether that be vegan, carnivore, vegetarian, pescatarian, atkins, zone, raw, paleo, keto - you get my drift. And believe me I have tried them all especially when I was younger.

I have great respect for people who are vegans doing what they believe to be the right thing for the planet and for their love of animals, I have great respect for anybody that is carnivore and have cured an incurable disease using this process. I have no issues with any diet if it is done for the right reasons and properly. It does not mean it is the right diet for them health wise but philosophy is an important consideration to take into account energetically.

So my philosophy on diet is an individual one.

What is right for the person sitting in front of me at this moment in time with their beliefs, their genetic picture and their mitochondria haplotype (ie where do their ancestry come from - on the mothers side and what environment are they living in- someone at the equator needs different advice than someone at the North Pole!)

As a dogmatic health practitioner I would try and convert everybody to what I “believe” is the most healthy diet. Whereas as a non dogmatic health practitioner I let go of my own beliefs and work with the person as a whole.

What is the point of me trying to convert a vegan to a carnivore or vice versa if their personal philosophy doesn’t support that. Food is an information system that our body uses to convert to electrons that fuels us and gives us energy. Part of that information system gives our bodies knowledge about the environment that food was grown in ( carbs cannot grow in winter so any carb tells our bodies the light environment is summer or spring) so if a vegan is eating carbs in winter I might encourage them to eat only the carbs that grow in their local environment and to increase their protein and fats.

If a carnivore comes to me in summer I could encourage them to eat lighter meats like fish and shellfish I adapt to them , making the diet they choose the healthiest it can be rather than “ my diet”

So please please don’t ask me “ what is the best diet, because my answer will always be “ For who”

We are all individual, the research is not done on us individually with all our nuances, it is done on a population basis as a general rule.

As a health practitioner I treat only individuals I am not a government health agency constructing food pyramids for general suggestions with the help of the major food companies!! So know what your heritage is know what your personal philosophy is, know what you prefer to eat and then trust yourself or come see me or any other naturopath or nutritionist if you want personal advice or assistance.

I will work with you where ever you are at.
